Comments about Prepac 42" Plasma TV Stand with Media Storage in Cherry:
No more digging through boxes for DVD's for me! There was enough room in the console to store all our DVD's. The console is now sitting in our recreation room with a lovely flat screen tv on top of it. It took my son over 2 hours to assemble it, but it was worth the effort. I love it!

Comments about Prepac 42" Plasma TV Stand with Media Storage in Cherry:
I looked around quite a bit before purchasing this stand. At this price there is not much competition. Even though it's called a 42" stand, the width is 48". Most manufacturers are still offering stands based on the old 42" TV standard even though most electronic companies have stopped making 42" TV's in favor of 46" models. I'm using this stand with a 46" TV that is just a fraction wider than 48" (Samsung 4671) and it is a very nice match. Initially I was concerned that the TV may be too large but that is not the case. Overall this is a well made product. The top shelf (where the TV sits) and the bottom shelf (where the feet attach), and the fronts of the doors are all made from better quality MDF (the same material used in higher end stands). The shelves and the side doors are made of particle board (yuck!). However, given the price, this is expected. The "cherry" finish/veneer is very nice and looks fantastic (not cheap at all) and the legs are a nice touch. There are 5 legs. The 5th one goes in the middle for extra support, be sure and use it, I didn't at first and even with the MDF and a relatively light LCD TV, it started to bend and sag a bit without it. Assembly was very easy but as some other reviewers mentioned you will need an extra set of hands to get the doors attached once they are assembled. I especially like the fact that it provides a significant amount of storage for DVD's behind closed doors. All the surfaces in the storage areas are black (not cherry) and have a kind of textured "no slip surface" which is actually a plus. It helps wires and cables to "disappear" and also helps to prevent components from sliding around too much. Behind the component area are two sliding panels which allow easy access for connections and have holes for cables to pass through when they are closed. This works fairly well, but would be better if they were a bit more sturdy. However, this is really a minor issue and still superior to an "open back" design. Overall, I'm very pleased with this stand and would purchase again. The best things about this stand are the price, the look, and the storage.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was prompt. The product arrived safely and in good condition. It's heavy (a good thing), so you may need help or at least a hand truck to move it. I had to call customer service once and they were very friendly and courteous. No problems at all.

When I came home from work - my husband had it all put together. I thought with all the screws & pieces etc that he might need me to hold this or that but he said it wasn't too hard to get together. The only thing I did when I got home was determine where the shelving went.

I was looking for a less bulky console and this works perfectly in my living room. A nice sleek design that also has space to accommodate a DVD player, satellite box, receiver, and DVDs.
Only downside was the shelves were missing from the box and I had to contact the manufacturer who sent them out right away.

Comments about Prepac 42" Plasma TV Stand with Media Storage in Cherry:
Once assembled, the stand is quite sturdy (weighs about 100 lbs) and looks good. The stand has blenty of room for the family XBOX, Wii, DirecTV box and home theater system (and I still have another empty shelf). The assembly was easy, but I did need an extra set of hands when attaching the doors to the hinges (the doors are the last part of the assembly). In addition, Racks and Stands had the best price ([$] cheaper than any other retailer I found offering this stand).

Comments about Prepac 42" Plasma TV Stand with Media Storage in Cherry:
This is a very nice unit.
However, having rollers or wheels for it (as options) would improve the units overall dependability. Once it is placed in a location with TV added on top and you need to gain entry to the rear for more cabling or modified cabling you run into difficulties.
Providing a Glass or Plastics type Frontal Enclosure would help cut down on dust and dirt build up on components added to the unit.

Comments about Prepac 42" Plasma TV Stand with Media Storage in Cherry:
Assembly may take 2 on the doors - or one who is ambidextrous. All in all, it was EASY to assemble w/plenty of parts and easy to follow directions with pictures. Awesome for us that are not handy around the house.
Finish look and weight is more than I expected with a put-together product. Very pleasantly suprised!
Other reviews are correct - center leg may need to be adjusted with extra care to avoid slight bowing in the middle with a heavy TV (I didn't use for a flat panel plasma as designed - but rather my old 37").
Though I'm not using as designed, the product is holding up wonderfully and well worth the money. So much so, I'm looking into other furniture made by Prepac.
