The black cardboard backing strips had to be replaced with 1/8" plywood - painted black - to insure adequate rigidity, function, and an acceptable appearance.

I had been using cheap bookcases to store my extensive collection of dvds, couldn't find anything, had to pile them 3 deep, etc. This was the answer to my dreams. Takes up much less room than the bookcases (due to its smaller depth)and now all my dvds are filed alphabetically and ez to find! Was very glad to find it in black (same color as my entertainment center). My son and daughter in law put this together for me on a Sunday afternoon. Took about 2 1/2 hours. Better to have two people to put it together, it is big and heavy. Also, love the "foot" at the bottom of this - I have it on shag carpeting and it never gets tipsy, like my cheap bookcases did. I have measured the other living room wall, where I keep a bookcase of VHS tapes - I intend to buy another unit to store those!

Only negative comment is that the top of the media center should be finished. Top is easily viewed, and is plain particle board. Takes away from the appearance of the unit.

This is a great product for my needs. It came together very quickly, but the backboard was a little hard to install. The finish was nice, but there were cat foodprints that required some scrubbing to get off!
